Homeschool Tips

Here are some things to consider before you get started:

bullet

Pray!

  • I believe the number one thing to do before you begin homeschooling is to pray. God should be the foundation of your homeschool. Before you begin building, lay the most important foundation.

bullet

Research, Research, Research

  • There are so many wonderful resources available to homeschoolers. Try just simply typing homeschool into a search engine like Google or one that you're familiar with.

  • Check out our Homeschool Links page for some other good places to begin.

  • A good informational site that suggests eight easy steps to begin Homeschooling 101

Talk with other homeschoolers

  • They can suggest things they have tried that worked for them

  • They can also be a great source of support.

bullet

Visit your local Public Libraries

  • The library has countless information available for homeschoolers.

  • Ask the local librarian where to begin.

Organize your home

  • Have a homeschool room or area

    • We have a small home so our Dining Room table servers as our main school area, but the boys have a desk in their room to use for quiet times.

    • Have a bookcase dedicated to homeschool curriculum and books.

    • Have homeschool related materials easily accessible.

  • Take time to make sure everything has a place and is easily accessible

    • Start to organize a month or two in advance. Don't wait until the last minute.

    • School will flow much easier if everything is organized.

    • This site suggests some books that might help Heart of Wisdom. There are also some links to organizational websites.

  • Make "To Do" Lists

    • Have a daily chore list. Include things the kids can help with.

    • Have a meal list. Make a weekly or bi-weekly meal list. This will help make meal time flow smoothly.

    • Look ahead in the curriculum and decide what materials are needed for the weeks ahead and have them on hand.
