Losing Our Neighborhood Schools / a vital part of our community

Super-Sized; consolidation at school 54 could double the student population in the future.

• Present school enrollment at Brokside School is 326 students. The expanded facility would have a capacity of 600. Almost double the present enrollment.

• IPS representatives say the increase in capacity is for future population growth in the neighborhood. Common sense might indicate a much different future. Budget pressures will probably lead to further consolidation and closing of other eastside neighborhood schools.

• Future increased school enrollment will lead to more vehicle and bus traffic as students are bussed in from other neighborhoods. More traffic and congestion will endanger residents and neighborhood students who walk to school.
