St. Joseph is venerated as the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the legal father of Jesus and the head of the Holy Family. He was Mary's support and protector, a witness to her virginity and a consoler in her difficult vocation. As the foster-father of Jesus, Joseph stands in close relation to the Son of God, the Fountain of all holiness. He surely has a greater share in his infinite sanctity than any other Saint, excepting Mary. Numberless are the graces and privileges connected with his exalted office. "If his love is to be potent in us, we must open ourselves fully to it by a behavior which reflects the intense devotion which he lavishes on us. Jesus and Mary were ever mindful of him and grateful to him for all he did for them. Legionaries must also be constantly attentive to him." (Handbook, #24, 1) The Solemnity of St. Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary occurs on March 19th. The memorial of St. Joseph the Worker, occurs on May 1st. |

Novena PrayerO glorious St. Joseph, O dear St. Joseph, Amen. Say three times... St. Joseph, friend of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, |
Memorare to Saint JosephRemember, O most chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary, that never was it
known that anyone who implored your help and sought your intercession
were left unassisted. Full of confidence in your power I fly unto you
and beg your protection. Despise not O Guardian of the Redeemer my humble
supplication, but in your bounty, hear and answer me. Amen. |
